Where the data lives
- On-chain: name, symbol and a URI.
- Off-chain: the URI points to a JSON file with the description, image link and socials.
- Standard SPL tokens use Metaplex Token Metadata. Token-2022 tokens can store name, symbol and URI in the mint itself with the metadata extension.
Before you start
You need the update authority wallet. If the metadata was made immutable, it can never change.
Steps
- Upload the new image and JSON to permanent storage such as Arweave or IPFS.
- Open a metadata update tool and connect the update authority wallet.
- Enter the mint address and the new name, symbol and URI.
- Sign, then reload the token in an explorer.
If the logo does not change
Wallets, explorers and DEX sites cache metadata. It can take a while to refresh, and some need their own update request.
