Phantom cannot create a token by itself. It holds your keys and signs transactions, so you open a token creator website, connect Phantom, fill in the token details and approve one transaction. The token is created by your wallet, and the full supply lands in your Phantom wallet. On a phone, do the same inside the browser built into the Phantom app.
What you need
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Phantom | Browser extension on desktop, or the Phantom app on iOS or Android |
| SOL in that wallet | The creator's fee plus 0.005 to 0.017 SOL of Solana rent and network fees, see the cost table below |
| Token details | Name, ticker, logo (PNG or JPG), supply and decimals |
| A token creator | Any no-code creator that supports Phantom, see the best token creators |
No SOL yet? See how to buy SOL in Phantom.
On desktop
- Open the token creator in the browser where the Phantom extension is installed.
- Press Connect wallet and choose Phantom. Phantom asks you to approve the connection; this only shares your public address.
- Fill in the name, ticker, logo, decimals and supply. If unsure, use 6 decimals, see decimals and supply explained.
- Choose SPL or Token-2022, see which standard to choose, and pick which authorities to revoke.
- Press create. Phantom opens an approval screen. Check it (next section), then approve.
- Wait a few seconds for confirmation. The creator shows the new mint address.
On mobile
- Open the Phantom app and go to its built-in browser.
- Type the token creator's address and open it.
- Tap Connect wallet and choose Phantom. The connection opens inside the app.
- Fill in the form, then approve the transaction when Phantom asks.
Opening the creator in Safari or Chrome on a phone usually fails to connect, because the Phantom extension does not exist there. Use the in-app browser. On Android, some sites also connect through the Solana Mobile Wallet Adapter.
What to check before you approve
Phantom simulates the transaction and lists the balance changes.
| Check | What you should see |
|---|---|
| SOL leaving your wallet | The tool's fee plus a little rent and network fee, close to what the site showed |
| Fee recipient | One transfer to the tool's fee address, nothing else |
| Tokens arriving | The full supply of your new token |
| No approvals | No "approve", delegate or unlimited spending for any token you already hold |
If the amount is very different from what the site promised, or Phantom shows a warning you do not understand, reject and check the tool first. A token creator never needs your recovery phrase.
What it costs
We simulated creation on Solana mainnet on 3 November 2026. These are Solana's own charges; the creator's fee comes on top.
| SPL | Token-2022 | Token-2022 with tax | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rent and Metaplex metadata fee | 0.0163 SOL | 0.0043 SOL | 0.0049 SOL |
| Network fee (with a priority fee) | 0.0002 SOL | 0.0002 SOL | 0.0002 SOL |
| Solana costs in total | 0.0165 SOL | 0.0045 SOL | 0.0051 SOL |
Creator fees range from nothing on the CLI to 0.5 SOL, and some tools charge 0.1 SOL more per revoked authority, see the cheapest way to create a token.
After you create it
- The token shows as Unknown or without a logo. Phantom reads the name and image from the token metadata and can take a few minutes to refresh. Check the mint in a Solana explorer; if the metadata is there, wait and reopen Phantom.
- The token is missing from the list. Search the mint address in Phantom's token list and turn it on.
- Nobody can buy it yet. A token needs a liquidity pool before it trades, see how to create a liquidity pool.
- Next steps. Work through the token launch checklist.
If it fails
| Message | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Insufficient funds or not enough SOL | The wallet cannot cover the fee plus rent; add SOL |
| User rejected the request | The approval was declined or timed out; try again |
| Transaction expired | It was not approved in time; create again |
| Simulation failed | An invalid setting, for example a supply too large for the decimals |
More fixes: why Phantom transactions fail.
How we checked
Steps follow the standard Solana wallet connect-and-sign flow that no-code token creators use with Phantom. Costs come from simulating the SPL Token, Token-2022 and Metaplex Token Metadata creation instructions on Solana mainnet at the current rent rate.
