What the message means
The error appears when the SOL in your wallet is less than the full cost of the transaction. Photon's own pages do not explain this message, so the breakdown below is how Solana transactions are built in general.
What a buy costs besides the amount
- The network fee for the transaction.
- The priority fee. Photon's buy and sell panels have a priority fee field and a separate "bribery amount" field, both in SOL.
- Rent for any new token account. A token account holds a small refundable deposit, about 0.002 SOL, which comes back when the account is closed. See what Solana rent is.
- Photon's own trading fee: 1% of the initial token used on every buy and sell, collected in SOL.
Fixes
- Lower the buy amount so the amount plus all fees fit in the balance.
- Lower the priority fee or bribery amount if you set them high.
- Top up the wallet. Photon's MoonPay page lets you buy Solana with a card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal.
