Why close accounts
Each empty token account holds about 0.002 SOL of rent that comes back when it is closed, see what rent is.
The options
| Method | Good for | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| One by one in a wallet | A few accounts | Network fee only |
| A script using the SPL token close instruction | Developers, many wallets | Network fees and your time |
| A bulk cleaner such as Jumpbit Wallet Cleaner | Hundreds of accounts, several wallets | 5% of SOL recovered, per its page |
Which to pick
For a handful of accounts, do it by hand. For hundreds, or across several wallets, a bulk tool saves hours, and its fee is a share of the SOL you recover. Whichever you use, closing is irreversible and an account must be empty first. A Token-2022 account with withheld fees cannot be closed, see the error explained. Compare tools on the account cleaners page.
